From November 27 to 30, 2024, the University of Douala will host the 31st Annual Conference of the Cameroon Biosciences Society (CBS). This major event, themed « Economic Perspectives of Biosciences in Cameroon: Contribution to Import Substitution, » is a must-attend gathering for key players in the scientific, industrial, and economic sectors. The conference aims to highlight how innovations in biosciences can serve as a powerful tool for reducing Cameroon’s reliance on imports and promoting the use of local resources.
Since its inception in 1988, the CBS Conference has evolved into a privileged platform for exchanges between researchers, industrialists, and policymakers. After the success of the 2006 and 2011 editions, the University of Douala is once again hosting this event, which will bring together bioscience experts and professionals from various disciplines to discuss essential topics for sustainable development and economic growth.
This year’s theme emphasizes the critical role that biosciences can play in promoting a resilient economy through import substitution. Like many developing countries, Cameroon faces the challenge of heavy reliance on imported goods. This conference aims to show how local innovations can drive job creation, enhance food security, and promote inclusive economic development.
Over the course of four days, researchers, professionals, and students will have the opportunity to share their research through plenary sessions, workshops, and exhibitions. The topics covered will range from biotechnology to ecosystem management, food security, bioethics, and public health. Participants will also enjoy a field trip to the AGROTECH Botanical Garden, offering a hands-on experience with local biodiversity and insights into the relationship between sustainable agriculture and scientific innovation.
The Local Organizing Committee, chaired by Professor Gustave Léopold Lehman, is calling for widespread participation from economic stakeholders and public contributions to ensure the success of this event. This conference could mark a turning point in leveraging biosciences for Cameroon’s sustainable development.
Join us in Douala to actively participate in this event, which promises to be a catalyst for innovations and fruitful collaborations that will shape the future of the country.
